Friday - Las Vegas to Palm Springs

This morning we met in the back parking lot of the University Of Las Vegas.  It was bright and early and H-O-T.....I mean REALLY hot.  It was over 100 degrees by 7:30 in the morning....and then we had to stand on the hot pavement waiting for the flag to drop so we could drive down the Strip and head out into the desert and work our way towards Palm Springs.   We started out with the top down but had to put the top up while we were sitting on the Strip.   It was just too hot to handle!!!

Only one more day for the number to go up!!!

Call me B'wana!!

Once we reached the desert we went past the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and joined parts of Historic Route 66 to see some amazing scenery.   We stopped at the Silver Dollar Chuck Wagon in Topock, AZ for lunch.  It was not a tourist spot!  We left all of that in Oatman...where a burrow tried to get in the car!!

My co-pilot thought it was a little too close!!

Blooming cactus.
Cactus nursery...for those of you into gardening!

121!!!  Can you believe it???

We got to the hotel about 4:45. This is the view from our window.

The evening event was at the Palm Springs Air Museum.   Nice venue...but at 8:00 in the evening it was still 108 degrees!!!  So everyone was feeling pretty washed out.

It's hard to believe we wrap it all up tomorrow morning at the Thermal Racetrack...
